Playoff Drama At Its Best Tonight
Posted by: Ben Wright on April 21, 2008 at 3:41PM EST
Game seven- Boston at Montreal. You don't have to like either team to get excited about this game. It was just a few years ago (in 2004) that Montreal scrambled back from a 3-1 series deficit to beat Boston, paving the way for Joe Thornton's trade to San Jose. It was the first time Montreal had ever rallied form a 3-1 deficit and the first time Boston had given up such a lead in a series. Now the shoe is on the other foot and Boston has all of the momentum. I should be a great game and you can catch it on Versus at 7. Personally, I'll be pulling for the Canadiens. My Western Conference playoff predictions aren't panning out so well, but I'm looking good in the East- especially if Philly eliminates Washington tonight in a game that is inexplicably absent from American television (except on Center Ice of course). Versus has done an outstanding job with their game coverage, but I'd rather follow a series from start to finish than get bits and pieces of each one. One complete story is more compelling than four partial stories. I guess the best we can hope for is for a Caps win tonight so Versus can carry game seven tomorrow night.

Yeah, too bad it's on Versus which no one really gets. I've got to settle for weekend games on NBC.

Says you. I've got regular old Comcast and I've been getting my playoff fix on Versus every night for two weeks! Woohoo!

Hey Ben-
Don't you feel like you need to cheer for Washington since they are in our division?

Obviously I'm not Ben, but its precisely because the Caps are in our division that I can NOT cheer for them. After competing against them all season, I can't suddenly turn around and be their friend. And I find my jealousy at their presence in the playoffs is huge. I've been cheering for the Flyers...and all season I've felt they were goons. But my competitive spirit is strong and as much as I appreciate Ovie's prowess, there's nothing in me that wants the Caps to succeed.

Boston's last game was a disappointment, but its the way it should have gone. Habs are formidable when they apply themselves. The Sharks better show up in their game 7.

And I really wish we got more HNIC/CBC coverage. I was looking forward to seeing Recchi in postseason broadcast action.

Michael- No. I don't feel an obligation to cheer for anyone in particular. I'm cheering for the teams I picked in my playoff predictions, and those teams were based on who I thought would win, not necessarily who I wanted to win. The one exception was when I picked Minnesota to beat Colorado. That one was a close call and I opted to go with my heart. I don't know why I like the Wild, but I do. For some reason I want to see them and the Blue Jackets succeed.

Sam- Recchi has been on TSN, not Hockey Night in Canada/CBC. It would be nice to see him though, huh?
