News Out Of Philly
Posted by: Ben Wright on March 17, 2008 at 3:15PM EST

I'm going to shamelessly piggyback on Craig Custance's AJC blog post to point out that Erik Christensen is going to be out for a little while and Boris Valabik is getting called up shortly (I'd tentatively expect him in the lineup on Wednesday).

I really like what I've seen from Bryan Little since he got here in February and with the way he and Christensen have played, along with Perrin, I'm not sure there's a pressing need for a top line center next season as people have been saying all year. Don't get me wrong- if one were available that would still allow the Thrashers to address other needs I'd be all for it, but the young guys have stepped up and are showing that they can get the job done. That's great news as it allows management to focus on other more pressing areas of need over the summer.

In other blogging news, I'm becoming a fan of Thrashers 411, and not just because they're sticking up for the Thrashers. They have a good team of writers and they do their homework. Whether you like what they have to say or not you can count on their work being well written and carefully researched when necessary. Good for them.

I'm excited to finally see Boris, I have heard a lot of things about him but have not seen him play. In my opinion, securing two top d-men is more of a priority than signing a #1 center. I would love for both of those things to happen but if I have to choose, I want the two top d-men more than the #1 center.

Ben-
Any clue what they will do with Zhitnik? I'm not a collective bargaining agreement expert, but don't we still need to pay his $3.5mm next year?

Little, Christensen and Perrin...I'd throw in White, too...decent players, but NOT top line centers. Have you been drinking the Atlanta Spirit Kool-Aid? Put those guys on any other NHL team..or better yet, see where Perrin and White came from...and they're not on the top line.

Skill, ba-bee. We're missing top line center size and skill. Anything less in the off-season and we're having this conversation again next year...with a new GM.

This is sad news about Christensen as he was starting to get used to playing center again and was looking good last few games. I still think we need an established #1 center for Kovy who can rack up at least 50pts. He's gone far too long without someone who can not only set him up but also shoot and score goals too. I still think Little should play Kovy's RW until at least Little can learn to win more FO against NHL players. Little has good stick handling near Kovy's talent and you throw in a good #1 center between those two...Cha-ching! Perrin should stay with Army and Crusher. That line had instant chemistry from first game they played together. I like White as 3rd line center. He plays a more defense and controlled type game. I'm looking forward to seeing Boris play up here. I don't expect him to be a top 4 dman but our blueline definately needs size. Just hope he can keep out of the penalty box.

If we are thinking about Bobby Holik coming back next year, he must reduce his penalty minutes and salary in a BIG way!!!

I honestly don't want Holik back. We need to get younger and play smarter. What we need is a #1 center who's got good size who can help Kovy reach like 60 goals and Little about 20-25 goals. That would be ONE dangerous #1 line.

Really sad to hear about Christensen. I think he has the capability of being a first line center. I think he fits in nicely with Army and Perrin.

We finally get to see Boris!

Hope EC recovers fully so he can have a great season next year.

Hook-lik can hang up the skates for all I care. He's had a good run with the obvious exception of the past season. Too many slash and hooks.

How do you get rid of Zhit? What a waste of $$ he's been all year.
