Morning Skate News

Not much to report from the morning skate aside from the lines. I talked to Joey Crabb and Brett Sterling who are going to be line mates for the evening (with Eric Perrin in between them). Both of them are happy with how camp has gone (obviously, since they're still here) and Sterling said it's a big advantage to come in knowing the systems that Anderson is trying to put in place. It's been a bit of a role reversal since last year he was the rookie trying to learn everything. Now he's helping the vets. Crabb and Sterling didn't play together in Chicago but they were teammates for four years at Colorado College back in the day and they spent plenty of time playing together there. Hopefully they can make something happen tonight.

Here are your lines, though there could be a change or two to the lineup after warm-ups. Jason Williams and/or Grant Stevenson may be inserted into the lineup if someone is too banged up to play.

Forwards
Kovalchuk- White- Thorburn
Kozlov- Little- Armstrong
Sterling- Perrin- Crabb
Stuart- Slater- Hoffman

Defense
Hainsey- Havelid
Exelby- Bogosian
Valabik- Enstrom

Goalies
Hedberg
Pavelec

Games with Nashville tend to get messy so it's no surprise that Hoffman and Valabik are in the lineup. No word on who is suiting up for the Predators. They have a tendency to not share that kind of thing before games. They haven't arrived yet and didn't skate this morning so there was no chance to snoop around.

Why in the world is Toby on the 3rd line??? That makes absolutely no sense. Why is XLB on the 2nd line??? That makes absolutely no sense. I support John Anderson all the way, but I really hope he doesn't have this love fest for XLB and ends up putting misplaced faith in him. Hopefully he'll eventually see that XLBs game has left the country. I was really hoping to see Williams and Schneider tonight oh well. Should be fun none the less to finally be at a hockey game for the first time in 6 months!!! OMG this summer has sucked. lol

Oops. Sorry for double posts. I seem to have this issue where my posts don't show up and don't seem to get posted.

White- Thorburn????

WHY??? WHY??? I had some hope, some hope, where are EC and JW on that line? They should be building chemistry!

Oh will it ever get better....

Sorry had to be a bit more melodramatic today.

My only guess is White and Thornburn are ahead of the other guys on the depth chart who's playing tonight. I think the Kovy-EC-Williams line is pretty much set though. Don't think we have anything to worry about.

Keep in mind that it's preseason and some players are being tested to see what they can do with more ice time.

Ben,

Do you know if Moose and Opie are splitting time or is Pavs solely serving as a backup?

Posted by: Ben Wright on October 3, 2008 2:30PM EST
I hear they might split. Moose for the first two, Pavelec in the third.

The lines are the way they are because it is preseason. And I know that it is not going to be this way all season but at the end of the year Thorbun did a pretty good job with Kovy last year. If anything it will be fun to watch or listen to and see how Thorbun steps up and maybe even White.

I hope they play well. I am sure all lineups are up for grabs for at least the next two games. Hopefully, we will see more permanent lineup matches going into Oct 10 to start the regular season and see how they play out together for awhile. Lots goin on that's for sure. Can't wait for the 10th.

Wake up guys. White was the big center brought in to play with Kovy. Remember Niko? DW is adding his imput to the lines.

Thorburn is a great fit for kovalchuk.

Can't wait to see how Scneider fits in. Also, it will be good to see Koslov back on the ice. I hope he excels this year. No radio on tonight's game....too bad. Will we get updates?

That was one bad period. What happened?

Posted by: aroha on October 3, 2008 11:11PM EST
WTH? Blew a 4-2 lead with 4 unanswered goals? What happened? And NHL.com game summary has a L next to Nashville's goalie and a W next to Pavs.

Oh...just saw Pavs played the 3rd period...the one we gave up the 4 goals in. Interesting.
