Happy Memorial Day
Posted by: Ben Wright on May 24, 2008 at 8:48AM EST
Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone. I'm not expecting there to be any Thrashers news over the weekend so the blog is likely going to be pretty quiet.

I'll be relaxing at the lake and watching games one and two of the Cup Final on Versus (tonight and Monday night). Thrashers 411 has put a bunch of their playoff commercial together in one handy blog post for your viewing enjoyment. Check them out.

Versus has done a great job promoting the league all season and deserves a heap of credit. But as much as I love those ads, the NHL easily trumped every single one of them with this:

I watched the Preakness last weekend and when they presented the Woodlawn Vase they actually had the nerve to call it sport's most coveted and most valuable trophy. Umm... no. It might be appraised as being worth $1 million, but the Stanley Cup is priceless.

I agree, the Stanley Cup is priceless. Among other things, it's not just a trophy in a "les-zure" sport watched for the most part by a bunch of silly people with more money than brains. It's a sport watched, followed, lived and breathed by PEOPLE all over America and Canada. Sure, betting on horse races is better. But give me a hockey game ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Even a non-contact Euro game easily beats any horse race in my opinion.

That was a really good commercial too. Versus does some nice ones, but I have to say I agree that the commercial you posted is much better.

GREAT COMMERCIAL

Think maybe they were referring to the "Triple Crown" as opposed to just the 2nd jewel in that crown?
An argument could be made that since only a handful of owners have accomplished this feat in the last 100 yrs. that it may very well BE "The most coveted trophy" in all of sports, EH?

Don't forget the sunscreen.

They were most definitely talking about the Woodlawn Vase- not the Triple Crown. Give me some credit lordstan57.

Hi Ben, more folks would probably comment in here if there was an age limit or an IQ requirement:^)

lordstan57 if you don't agree with what Ben is saying then simply do not read it. No reason to insult him because you have nothing better to do than to maon groan and complain all the time.

Who's insulting who?
I've not, most certainly not the trash above. As B's certainly aware.

LL.... Take your own advise and choke on it.

PUKHED- Or at least a common sign-in name, to prevent or at least greatly discourage someone using someone else's preferred moniker. If it wasn't the usual bloke behind lordstan57 then someone chose his preferred moniker to sling an insult. Maybe the sign in names from the boards? Dunno if it'd work or not, but at least you'd be relatively sure that it was the same person. But I do like the age & IQ requirements haha that one made me chuckle

AGE REQUIRMENT.

First, this is the internet, and you can't really check for age

Second, im 17 and im sure i can talk more hockey sence than many, if not most, bloggers here.

Anyways your all so off topic, the blog creator can easily edit the comments. So he can just delete whatever this guy said.
