Another successful Casino Night is in the books. Check back on Monday for more galleries. There should be another 40 or so pictures going up.

This job would be so much easier if our guys weren't so well behaved at these functions. No stories. No dirt. Everyone is being polite and having fun, signing autographs and posing for pictures. Fas are even leaving some of the guys alone. Kari, Kovy and a few of the other guys are just chilling on some stools and hardly anyone is stopping by to chat.

Last year a few players pulled out mullet wigs for Casino Night. This year the only person to do anything special was Garnett Exelby who pulled his hair back in a short pony-tail under his top hat. He's also sporting lambchop sideburns and a goatee. He doesn't look unlike Joe Dirt. He actually reminds me of a WWE wrestler but I can't put my finger on which one.

The auction just wrapped up and it won't surprise me if some new records were set. Someone dropped about $3,000 on an afternoon with Garnet Exelby and another generous soul won a chance to go on a team trip by contributing $12,000 to the Thrashers Foundation. I've met some of the kids that the foundation helps out and it's a fantastic cause. That money will go a long way in helping some great kids. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event being a success. Hopefully some people that were here will share some stories in the comments (hint, hint). I do know that CSS was here and went around to different players and coaches and got them to sing a line form The Gambler. Word is Don Waddell played along. If I can find out when it's going to air I'll let you know. Maybe we can ever get a copy of it for the website.

Check back tomorrow for lots more pictures. We'll probably crank another two galleries.

Here's your first photo gallery of the night. Time for me to go walk around and see what's going on.

The early favorites for most popular player/dealer of the night are:

Kari Lehtonen (popular with the younger ladies)
Moose (popular with everyone)
Eric Boulton (he's a man's man)
Marian Hossa (everyone loves Hoss)
Ken Klee (chicks dig guys with scars and his nose is still a mess)
Ilya Kovalchuk (the high skill option)

If you're ever in the are stop by the Mason Murer Fine Art gallery and check it out. It's at 199 Armour Drive, right behind the Sweetwater Brewery. There's some spectacular art on the walls and the gallery has a great industrial vibe going.

The doors are open here at the Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery and the 2008 Atlanta thrashers Foundation Casino Night is underway. The players will be introduced in a little while.

It's easy to tell who the seasoned Casino Night fans are. They're the ones checking out the placards on the tables to see who is going to be dealing where.

There are healthy lines formed at the Mystery Bag table and there's a nice crowd across from me at the silent auction tables where there are some really nice pieces up for grabs. How about an Eastern Conference All-Star jersey signed by the entire Eastern squad? Or an Ilya Kovalchuk signed All-Star jersey? There's an assortment of trips up for grabs including a week in Mexico. then there are the diamond ear rings, a diamond necklace and a handful of special experiences, including the chance to shadow the official Thrashers photographer during a game. Scott Cunningham has been around since the Flames were here, so he certainly knows what he's doing. He's one of the best in the game and he'll be feeding me pictures tonight. I should be ab;e to crank out a couple of galleries for you. The first one will go up shortly after he takes the obligatory team picture of all of the guys in their white tuxes.

I'll be posting up dates all night, so keep stopping by.

Sometimes you win ugly.

After dropping two straight one-goal games in which they did a lot of things right the Thrashers got two points out of a game in which they probably didn't perform as well. They were good in the first period against the Lightning, terrible in the second and desperate in the third. Desperate worked and got them to overtime where Alexei Zhitnik of all people put the game away. Zhitnik has four goals as a Thrasher going back to last season and two of them are OT game-winners.

As mentioned yesterday some of the Braves went to the game. I stopped by and got a chance to talk to Chuck James and Jo-Jo Reyes who were joined by Buddie Carlyle and Charlie Morton. Both of them were attending their first NHL game and it was Reyes' first hockey game of any kind.

Both players commented on how hockey is a lot faster in person than it looks on TV.

Reyes grew up in Riverside, California- close to Anaheim and LA- but he wasn't really exposed to the game. Asked what his favorite part of the game was through the second period (when the score was 1-0 Tampa) the lefty-handed pitcher said he was a fan of the hitting.

Chuck James liked the physical stuff too. His favorite moment?

"The almost fight. This is my ever professional hockey game. I went to one other one in Michigan. I had a buddy that went to the University of Michigan and they fought a lot."

James echoed Reyes, saying the game was a lot of fun and a lot better in person than on TV.

James sounded a little bit disappointed when he said that they probably wouldn't be able to make it to another game given that the pitchers leave for spring training on Tuesday.

James is confident in the Braves' chances to win their division, pointing out that on paper the Braves have a great team.

"It all boils down to if we can stay healthy though," he said.

After I returned to the press box I made a point of keeping an eye on the group throughout the third period and overtime. They didn't get the fight they wanted but they did get a comeback goal and an OT winner and they certainly looked like they were enjoying themselves.

Next up- Casino Night. I'll be there and if all goes well on the technological end I'll be posting pictures and anecdotes throughout the night for those of you who can't attend. Garnet Exelby said he has something up his sleeve to add to his outfit so we'll find out what that it. Last year he rocked a hat and a brutal 80's mustache.

Brad Larsen has a pretty good beard going right now so maybe he has something special in mind for that tonight.
 Time will tell.

Lost in all of the All-Star Game hoopla is the fact that Casino Night is quickly approaching. If you want to spend some time with the Thrashers and see what they're like away from the rink this is the perfect way to do it. This year's event will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 6-10 p.m. at Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery, located at 199 Armour Drive. I can tell you from first-hand experience that Casino night is a blast. The food is always good, the prizes are great, the games are fun, and interacting with the players is a treat that you won't experience anywhere else. Plus it's all for a good cause- the Atlanta Thrashers Foundation.

If you're on the fence about whether or not to attend I can promise you that you won't regret going. Get your tickets soon though because Casino Night sells out every year.

All of the players seem to be having a good time working as dealers. Johan Hedberg's table is filled with women, as was Hossa's when I stopped by. Can't imagine why.

Marian Hossa- NHL superstar and dealer extraordinaire.

Kari chats with a fan.

Moose cracks a smile...

...Jeff Odgers does not.

Jon Sim, or Simmer (not Sims).

Eric Belanger. What an addition to the team, huh?

And we'll wrap it up with this instant classic. Greg "The Mullet" de Vries with Atlanta Spirit CEO Bernie Mullin.

Things are shutting down shortly here at Casino Night. I haven't heard any good stories yet, but I'm sire some will come out at some point. I just don't hear them sitting over in my corner by the Starbucks guys.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you like the new blog.

Why isn't it a surprise that these two are hanging out together tonight?

I don't know what the story is here, so you can make one up on your own to go with the pictures.

Garnet Exelby, looking dapper with a fedora and a 'stache.

Yes, Greg de Vries is wearing a mullet wig. Or a Ryan Smyth special if you prefer. You can get your own mullet wig if you're one of the first 8,000 people in the door for Sunday's game against Carolina (don't forget it's a 2pm start now).

Yes, Bob Hartley can smile. He's dealing blackjack in the VIP room.

Kovy can smile too.

Brad Larsen is sticking to poker.

Moose is pondering something. I don't what it is, but it must be deep. Look at that concentration.

I think capacity for Puritan Mills is somewhere around 600, so we have about 500 guests crammed in here, plus players and staff.

The gift bags, which always do well are already sold out. That only took about 30 minutes. The players are about to be introduced, so once those are out I'll snap some more pictures.

When attending these types of events it's important to accessorize.

Here's thrash getting some instructions. Nice tux Thrash (compliments of Savvi Formalwear).
