We had seven entrants that got three right and the final trivia winner of

the contest back next season. If we do I'll be in desperate need of trivia
questions, so feel free to send some my way.

In the grand tradition of Blueland Blog, trivia for Saturday's game is being
held on Friday. After two full seasons of coming up with new trivia

Eight rookies suited up for the thrashers this season and seven of them made

get digging.
Answer the question below and send your response to

Five current roster players have set new career highs in goals, assists or
points and they are:
- Eric Perrin (assists and points)
- Chris Thorburn (goals, assists and points)
- Tobias Enstrom (goals, assists and points)
- Bryan Little (goals, assists and points)
- Marl Popovic (assists, points)
Congratulations to Mark I. who is today's winner. Not many people got
this one right, and if you're answer was something along the lines of "If
you're counting rookies it was five but if you're not it's two" I didn't
give it to you. You get one answer. That wouldn't fly in school or even if
you were playing Trivial Pursuit with your friends.
Remember- trivia for the season finale will be held on Friday.

Trivia For 03/21 Game:
Q) Barring any gameday changes two Kozlovs will take to the ice
tonight- Slava and Viktor. How many times in his NHL career has Viktor
Kozlov scored more points in a given season than Slava and how many
times have the two Kozlovs played on a team together (pro or
internationally)? |
Viktor Kozlov has outscored Slava Kozlov in two NHL seasons and
is on his way to doing it a third time this season. In 1999-00 he had 70 points
to Slava's 36 and in 2001-02 he had 27 to Slava's 22. This year Viktor has 46
points compared to Slava's 39. Since Viktor joined the NHL Slava has outscored
him 669 points to 448 and has played in 104 more playoff games than Viktor, who
has played in just 14. Slava calls Viktor a 'good buddy of mine' but has never
played with him at any level of hockey, which is somewhat surprising given that
the two players have combined for 17 appearances with Russia in international
play (10 times for Slava, 7 for Viktor).
Congratulations to Austin R. who is today's winner. Trivia now
goes on hiatus for a week and returns on April 1 for the second last home game.

The Thrashers face the Capitals for the last time tonight and so far they've had
the edge in the season series, going 4-3-0 against Washington. Ilya loves these
games, as does Alex Ovechkin who is always a thorn in Atlanta's side. Given how
heated games between the division rivals can get it should be interesting to see
how Boris plays tonight. He's not one to shy away from the rough stuff and he
quick to jump to the defense of teammates. It should be a good one. The trivia

It's a historic day for Blueland blog trivia. I knew it was a hard question
when I posted it, but nobody submitted the names of two people who worked
for the Flames and now work with the Thrashers. A few people said Dan
Bouchard and that's one a grey area. He does some hockey clinics from time
to time but I'm not sure what kind of a relationship exists there with the
Thrashers.
So here's what I did- I drew a winner form the 10 people who took a stab at
it, as long as they got one name right. Randy S. is the lucky winner.
Here are the names I was looking for:
- Equipment manager Bobby Stewart, who had the same job with the
Atlanta Flames. He moved with them to Calgary and then came back to
Atlanta when we got a team.
- Team photographer Scott Cunningham. He's been around since the early
70's as the photographer for the Flames, Hawks and now Thrashers. I know
I've mentioned that on the blog before.
- Senior Director of Team Services Michelle Zarzaca. She runs the show
when it comes to travel arrangements, immigration paperwork, and any
other logistical functions for the team. She also worked for the Flames.
It was a tough question and I give people credit for trying.

Five home games and counting. The Flames should be a good draw tonight. given
that they haven't been here in ages and there plenty of emotional ties to the
old Atlanta Flames. That just so happens to be the theme of today's trivia
question below. On a side note, did you know that the Thrashers are 3-4-0
all-time versus Calgary and that both teams are undefeated at home? That's
right- the Flames have never won at Philips. Hopefully I didn't just jinx it.

The Thrashers are 0-5-1 all-time against the Wild which you would think would
make their prospects for winning tonight seem pretty grim, especially the way
things have gone for the Thrashers lately. I'm taking a different view though.
This has been such a bizarre season that this is exactly the kind of game that
the Thrashers could use to snap a lengthy winless streak. The Wild are battling
for their division title and have a lot on the line. The Thrashers are a few
losses from being mathematically eliminated from the playoff race. sounds like
an upset brewing for me. Want to see it in person? Enter the trivia contest.

2002 8th round pick Tyler Boldt made the trip from Kamloops to Brandon along
with Erik Christensen. The Brandon Wheat Kings were of course immortalized in
the song " Wheat
Kings" by the Tragically Hip which is about a man who was released form
prison after serving 20 years for a crime he didn't commit. One of the first
things he did was go to a Wheat Kings game. The song is featured on the album
Fully Completely, which also included " 50
Mission Cap"- the Hill's most famous hockey themed song. I have now exceeded
the maximum number of allowed Hip references for the blog this season.
In an odd twist, there's another Thrasher connection to that 2004
Kamloops/Brandon trade. As one entrant pointed out, Randy Kozak was included in
the trade. He was drafted then traded from the Flyers to the Rangers along with
a second round pick. That pick was then dealt to Atlanta and was used to take
Ondrej Pavelec.
30 people got the question right and David S. is the lucky winner.

Pascal Dupuis and Alexei Zhitnik are the only Thrashers who have been traded
twice in the same season and it happened to both of them last year. Zhitnik went
from the Islanders to the Flyers and then got traded to Atlanta and Dupuis came
to Atlanta via New York after being traded by the Wild. Jeff H. is today's
winner (out of 30 correct answers). Hopefully the rest of you all have tickets,
because this should be a great game. The next trivia question will be for the
Feb. 28 game against the Islanders. Odds are it's going to be about a new
addition to the team since I doubt Don Waddell is going to let the trade
deadline pass without making any changes.

Today's winner is Dawn H. who correctly named Johan Hedberg, Steve McCarthy
and Mark Recchi as three Thrashers who played under current Canucks coaches.
Recchi played for Alain Vigneault in Montreal and McCarthy and Hedberg played
under assistant coach Barry Smith in Vancouver. Also accepted were Chris
Thorburn who played in North Bay for Mike Kelly and Thrashers assistant coach
Steve Weeks who played under Rick Bowness in Ottawa.
As for the PEI connections that I mentioned earlier (that most of you don't
care about), rookie Canuck Nathan McIver is from Prince Edward Island, assistant
coach Mike Kelly makes his offseason home in Cornwall, PEI and coached the UPEI
Panthers hockey team head coach Alain Vigneault coached the PEI Rocket of the
QMJHL. Vancouver also has a goalie named Drew Macintyre in Manitoba who is from
my hometown of Charlottetown. PEI has about the same population as Savannah, so
it's a bit odd to have that many connections to the place in one NHL
organization.
Anyway, congrats to Dawn who was one of 29 people who got the question right.

The Canucks are in town and I'm excited. they're one of only four NHL teams that I haven't seen play live yet, so this should be fun. There are all sorts of interesting Thrashers/Canucks connections as well as Canucks/Prince Edward Island connections (that's where I'm originally from) so it was fun coming up with today's trivia question. Let's see how much fun you have answering it.
If you know your Thrashers trivia you could win a pair of tickets to tonight's game by correctly answering the question below by 2 p.m.. All the details are in the rules.
