This job would be so much easier if our guys weren't so well behaved at these functions. No stories. No dirt. Everyone is being polite and having fun, signing autographs and posing for pictures. Fas are even leaving some of the guys alone. Kari, Kovy and a few of the other guys are just chilling on some stools and hardly anyone is stopping by to chat.Last year a few players pulled out mullet wigs for Casino Night. This year the only person to do anything special was Garnett Exelby who pulled his hair back in a short pony-tail under his top hat. He's also sporting lambchop sideburns and a goatee. He doesn't look unlike Joe Dirt. He actually reminds me of a WWE wrestler but I can't put my finger on which one.
The auction just wrapped up and it won't surprise me if some new records were set. Someone dropped about $3,000 on an afternoon with Garnet Exelby and another generous soul won a chance to go on a team trip by contributing $12,000 to the Thrashers Foundation. I've met some of the kids that the foundation helps out and it's a fantastic cause. That money will go a long way in helping some great kids. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event being a success. Hopefully some people that were here will share some stories in the comments (hint, hint). I do know that CSS was here and went around to different players and coaches and got them to sing a line form The Gambler. Word is Don Waddell played along. If I can find out when it's going to air I'll let you know. Maybe we can ever get a copy of it for the website.
Check back tomorrow for lots more pictures. We'll probably crank another two galleries.
