Best Goal of the Year?
Posted by: Ben Wright on January 18, 2008 at 11:40AM EST
I dare you to show me a video of a more impressive goal than this one.  The NHL and TSN are both calling it one of the goals of the year but not everyone is pointing out the back story. Columbus was leading Phoenix 3-2 late in the third when Rick Nash was called for a high-sticking minor. Phoenix capitalized on the ensuing power play and tied the game at 18:22 of the third. Just over a minute later Rich Nash set out to redeem himself, undressing two Phoenix defensemen and Mikael Tellqvist en route to scoring the game-winner with 21.5 seconds left.

That's clutch, and that's why Rick Nash is an All-Star.

I saw the goal on the web earlier today, gets my vote for goal of the year so far.

That was very sexy indeed. The one Mtl got against us last night was also very good.

I'd still put Kovy's goal on 1/2 vs. Carolina right in there.

I would place Kovy's blast against Broduer as more impressive.

Wow just wow. I love Kovy and all but that one was better to deke around 2 defenders like that, going side to side, around the goalie's poke check.

I am as big of a Thrashers and Kovy homer as you will meet but Nash's goal is better than any of Kovy's this year. Not only did the goal have everything Barry described above but Nash also had to kick the puck to himself before putting it in the back of the net.

Wow... the moves were incredible but the timing of it is what seals it for me. Best of the year, so far, hands down. Toews's goal, against Colorado I think, was pretty sweet earlier in the season.
